A Place Where Memories Are Made

Gilded Palate opened its doors in 2018 in the heart of Peterborough. Our founder, Chef Marguerite Devereaux, dreamed of a space that honoured the glamour of the 1920s while serving bold, modern Canadian cuisine.

Every detail in our dining room tells a story. From the gold-leaf ceiling panels to the hand-cut crystal glassware, each piece was chosen with care. We believe great food deserves a great setting.

Our kitchen sources fresh, local produce from Ontario farms. We work with small-batch suppliers and artisan growers. This means our menu changes with the seasons, and every dish feels alive.

Our main dining room seats 80 guests in Art Deco splendour. Each table is set with linen, crystal, and gold-rimmed china. The five-course tasting menu changes monthly.

Executive Chef & Founder

Trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. 20 years in fine dining kitchens across Montreal, Toronto, and New York. Her vision built Gilded Palate from the ground up.

Head Sommelier

Certified Master Sommelier with a passion for Canadian wines. James curates our 2,000-bottle cellar and designs every wine pairing on the menu.

Sofia Pellegrini

Pastry Chef

Sofia brings Italian artistry to every dessert. Her chocolate fondant has become our most-ordered dish. She trained in Milan and worked at top bakeries in Vancouver.

General Manager

Robert runs the front of house with grace. His 15 years in hospitality mean every guest feels at home. He also manages our private events and catering.

Head Bartender

Amelie creates the cocktail menu at The Deco Bar. She won the Canadian Bartender of the Year award in 2023. Her drinks are as beautiful as they taste.

Moments that define us

01

The Governor General's Dinner

In 2022, we hosted a dinner for the Governor General of Canada during their visit to Peterborough. Our team created a seven-course menu featuring ingredients from every Canadian province.

The meal told the story of Canada on a plate. Atlantic lobster, Prairie bison, B.C. salmon, and Quebec maple all made an appearance. The event was covered by national media and put Gilded Palate on the map.

Result: National press coverage and a 300% increase in bookings over the following month.

Farm to Fork Program

We launched our Farm to Fork program in 2021. We now partner with 14 local farms within 80 km of Peterborough. Each farm supplies seasonal produce, meats, and dairy direct to our kitchen.

This program cut our food miles by 70% and gave our guests the freshest possible ingredients. Several of our partner farms have since grown their business because of the steady orders.

Result: 14 local farm partnerships, 70% reduction in food miles, and a Sustainability Award from the Ontario Restaurant Association.

The Wedding That Started It All

Our first private event was a wedding for 35 guests in 2019. The couple wanted a 1920s-themed celebration, and our Gold Room was the perfect fit. Custom cocktails, a jazz quartet, and a five-course meal made the night unforgettable.

Word spread quickly. Within a year, we were fully booked for private events every weekend. That one wedding showed us the power of creating truly personal experiences.

Result: Private events now account for 30% of our revenue, with a 12-month waitlist for Saturday bookings.
